In the news in past weeks the lack of any black nominees in the
Oscars has been a much discussed subject. As a female black women who loves arts
and films, the Oscars has always been the high recognition of an actor or
actress no matter what their ethnicity is, however a few years back I stopped
watching it as I used to as I could already see that whenever a black actor or
actress that majority were not even considered a contender. That is wrong in
all aspects, being in the acting career makes all actors contenders for the
Oscar nomination but the people that run the film industry are an elite who do
not represent the diversity of actors in films. Having a female Afro-American
as a president doesn't give the actors the feeling that they are represented.
As Jada Pinkett-Smith
and Spike Lee are not attending the Oscars as a sign of their disapproval of
what has been happening for the past two years I would suggest that many other
colleagues and actors/actresses from any other ethnic backgrounds do the
same. In fact organise yourselves with
the film critics and create other recognition awards bigger and better than the
“Elite Oscars”.
The people has much more power than they actually think they
have and we the audience can make or break a film, so when they flop I would
like to see that so called ‘Oscar’ buzz around the same all same actor that is
nominated all most every year.
There is a fight in every step of the way for a the ethnic
minority, especially for black man and woman in any country and in any
profession but the important is to never give up and turn things around to your
benefit.
